14 July 2017.
Dearly beloved,
All thanks be to Allah the Lord of the worlds. All peace and prayers upon the most honourable of all messengers.
Slaves of Allah, many people today complain from difficulty of living due to high cost, and suffer from worry and stress. Without a doubt, the cause of all that is the large number of disobediences and sins. For; is there any of us who does not sin? Which one of us does not disobey Allah? In fact, the messenger ppbu said: {if you do not commit sin then Allah would take you away and replace you with other people who would sin and they ask for forgiveness and Allah forgives them.}. In fact, the messenger ppbu also said: {All son of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent}. In fact, even a God-fearing and holy individual falls into sin and commits disobediences. Allah the Almighty described the God fearing faithful peopled, and mentioned that that they do commit disobediences, or do wrong against themselves or they do themselves injustice. And listen slave of Allah, to what those God fearing people do when they fall into sin or commit a wrong against themselves, Allah say: { And those who, when they do an evil thing or wrong themselves, remember Allah and appeal forgiveness for their sins - Who forgives sins save (or except) Allah only? - and they will not knowingly insist or continue doing (the wrong) they did.} 3:135. In fact the difference between a believer who commits sin and the wrong and evil doer who is disobedient, the difference was outlined by Ebn-Masood when he said: {a believer views his sin as real mountain about to crash on top of him, while a sin-committing hypocrite views his sin as the fly insect which lands on his nose; so he wave it off with his hand just like that}. Can you see the difference between them? They both disobey Allah, but the believer becomes fearful, regretful, heart trembling and asks for forgiveness and does good deeds of obedience as penance or so they would clear or amend those sins. While a disobedient hypocrite commits sins and acts of disobediences and feels happy, and he even brags and boasts about it and does so publicly.
If sin has to be and everybody sins, then dear Muslim brother and sister, you must protect yourselves from falling into sin. One may ask the question: how is it possible to protect against sinning? But before we answer this question, first you need to know that sin has bad side effects, One of those is and those deeds of disobedience lead to having a bad face and lead to darkness in the heart. Listen to Allah how He describes those who move away from His rules and violate His prohibitions and sanctities, and those who fall into sin and do a lot of it. Rather overdo it. See how Allah describes their living in this worldly life. Allah says: { But he who turns away from remembrance of Me, his life will be a narrow, tight and miserable life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection. } 20:124. He would wake up in the morning to singing songs, while remembrance of Allah does not find a way to his tongue. When he rides a car he only listens to music. Whenever he sees girls he does not restrain or restrict or limit his looks, in fact he keeps gazing left, right and center. Also, a girl leaves her house with full makeup, perfumed and dresses to reveal, showing off her hair and arms; broadcasting to everybody: look at me. And when she comes home she does not think of remembrance of Allah, or prayers. No, she sits by the tv till late in the night. If you ask that man and that girl: Why do you do this? He or she would say: I am board, I have tightness in my chest and I don’t feel there is any joy in this life. Do you know why all that is happening? It is the avoidance and blocking away of remembrance of Allah, just as Allah says: { But he who turns away from remembrance of Me, his life will be a narrow, tight and miserable life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection. (124) He will say: My Lord! Why Have You gathered me (hither) blind, when I used to be able to see? (125) He will say: Just as Our revelations came unto you; but you did forget them. Likewise, on this day; you are forgotten.} 20:124-126.
Listen to this man, this non-believer scholar, (his name is: Dale Carnegie) who searched for happiness in this life. He did much research aimd to achieving happiness in this life. He authored a book titled: “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living”. He wrote this book so he can show the reasons and factors for achieving happiness in this life. When he finished writing the book he tied up a robe in his room and hung himself. Allah says: { But he who turns away from remembrance of Me, his life will be a narrow, tight and miserable life . . .} 20:124. Yes, they will live as people live. In fact as animals live. Eat, drink, wear clothes, ride a car, but the heart is sad, and the chest is tight, and for him this world has gone so small despite how big and broad it really is.
You, slave of Allah, ask those who commit sins and deeds of disobedience: Are you living in happiness? Look at; and think of the state they are in. They have everything except remembrance of Allah and prayers and Allah’s rules. They complain from tightness in their chest. They are looking for some spell, which can reduce their pain. Dear Muslim sister, sit down with the God-fearing servant of Allah, who wears her hijab, and who is modest. When she gets up at night, it is for Fajr prayer. She goes to sleep with remembrance of Allah; and she wakes with remembrance of Allah. She curtails her eye-sight or gaze. She keeps Her God’s prohibitions. She and those like her; Allah spoke about them as He says: {Those who have believed and whose hearts have feel at rest in the remembrance of Allah. Certainly in the remembrance of Allah; hearts do find rest! } 13:28
Abd-Allah, you slaves of Allah, men and women, if those are the disadvantages of disobedience, and those are the negative side effects of committing sin in this worldly life; then you can only imagine the disadvantages and the negative consequences on the day of resurrection, and in the grave and on the day of gathering.
Slave of Allah, the question now is: How to protect yourself from sin and disobedience? How do you keep away from sin? And how to inoculate yourself? How do you fortify yourself if sin and deeds of disobedience approach you? The messenger ppbu told us that there shall come a time for people where a person holding on to his religion is like that who is holding on to stone of fire. It shall become so difficult for a person to hold on to his/her faith. Then the messenger ppbu said: {preempt with good deeds. There will be enticements and temptations just like the dark part of the night. A man is a believer in the morning, but by the evening, he becomes unbeliever..}. Meaning; in the morning he would he would do his prayers, prostrating, praising and remembering Allah, knowing Allah’s rights. Then as the night approaches, and the sun sets, he denies Allah’s commandments, and he makes fun of Allah’s rules. {and a man is a believer as night and by the morning he turns into an unbeliever. He trades his religion or faith for something this worldly life has to offer}. Many many were God fearing, pious devout people, and suddenly some temptation or a disobedience turns them upside down.
Listen slaves of Allah, there was a man who was devout throughout his life. In fact he used to do Azan calling people to prayers. He used to climb up the mosque’s minaret and used to say: “Come on to prayer, come on to be winner Íí Úáì ÇáÕáÇÉ¡ Íí Úáì ÇáÝáÇÍ”. And one day while he was doing Azan he looked near by and there was a young lady who caught his eye. So, he looked at her and kept on looking. He did not curtail or curb his gaze. Next, his heart got hooked. After Azan, he climbed down the minaret and headed for the lady’s house. The lady was quite happy and she asked: “Is it that one of the trusted people is betraying his trust?”. He said: “I am seeking you.”. She asked: “as a wife?”. He said: “yes”. She said: “But I have one condition”. “What is it?” he said. She said: “You become a Christian”. Meaning leave your religion and deny your faith. He accepted. He said: “I will become a Christian”. Praise be to Him who change the hearts just like that. Do you see how sin goes into the heart; and it changes it and turn it over. Then she invited him into her house and offered him a drink. So, he drank alcohol and ate ham in the food she offered him. She said to him: Go upstairs on the roof. Relax and I will tell my father as soon as he comes in. He went upstairs while drunk. He fell off the roof of the house. He died while being a Christian and after retraction from; and denunciation of Islam. In his Allah says: { Allah holds firm those who have faith and believe with firm words in this worldly life and in the Hereafter, and Allah sends wrong-doers astray. And Allah does what He will. }14:27. The prophet ppbu said: {Peoples’ hearts are between Allah’s fingers; He turns them as He wills}.
First thing with which you protect yourself from sin and disobedience is auditing, assessing, reviewing and monitoring. Monitor Allah at all times and all places. Always remember that someone can see you and someone is watching you. It is the one and only. He is the one who counts and assesses every breath, and every look, and every word. Allah says: {He is the Knower of the this world and one beyond, the Great, the High Exalted. (9) You are all alike, this he who talks secretly and this who speaks out loud, and he who lurks in the night and he who infiltrates in the daytime. (10)} 13:9-10. Meaning this who hides himself in the dark and locks himself in, who could see him? Allah says: {Was he not aware that Allah sees?} 100:14. Slave of Allah, when you come to Allah on the day of resurrection He will display to you book which leaves nothing unrecorded, no matter how big or small. Allah says: { On the Day when every soul will find itself confronted with all that it has done of good is presented, and all that it has done of evil will wish that it is parted from by a vast and far dimension.} 3:30.
Slave of Allah, there is another thing with which you can protect your self from disobediences. It is God fearing. Do not think that a disobedience happens and disappears, or it is a look and it is gone, or it is the last video and then I will repent. Allah Himself give the following warning to people: {and fear me if you really have faith} 3:175. Are you, slave of Allah, not afraid of Allah while you have the audacity and daring to disobey Him? And you maid of Allah, are you not worried or afraid that while you are in the process of committing a sin that Allah may take your soul? Listen to our devout ancestors how they used to be God-fearing people. Prophet Abraham pbu; it was said that while he was at a prayer; it was possible to hear a humming sound in his chest due to the level of fear he used to have. Prophet David, people who visited him used to think he was sick. There was nothing physically wrong with him except the strong fear of God he had. They were the most just and God-fearing people and they were never disobedient, and yet they were the most God-fearing people. In fact the devout pious people, they do prayers, they fast and donate sadaqa and they still are fearful that there good deeds may not be accepted from them. Allah says about the likes of them: {And those who come up with the deeds they have already done which they did with trembling and fearing hearts} 23:60.
You ladies slaves of Allah, listen to our prophet ppbu. He is the most worshipping and most devout of all people, yet he used to be God-fearing. Aesha may God be pleased with her said that the messenger ppbu whenever he saw heavy clouds or wind then we would know it in his face. So, she would say to him: “Messenger of Allah, whenever people see clouds they feel happy hoping that it may contain some rain, but when you see it, I could tell by your face that you tend to hate it”. He said: {O Aesha, and who would guarantee me that it does not carry torture and suffering with it? Some people in the past were punished by wind. When they saw it first they said (he quoted the verse): {… , they said: Here is a sudden or random cloud bringing us rain. NO, but it is that which you did seek to hasten, a wind wherein is painful torment} 46:24}. Some of us unfortunately, commit sin and violate the forbidding and they laugh and play and careless. They turn their head on their pillows and so relaxed. They do not pray Fajr prayer until after the sun come out, and they careless.
Listen to Abu-Baker and he probably the most devoted of all people in this nation (next to the prophet ppbu) who says about himself out of fear of Allah. He says: “I wish if I were a tree that is broken ..”. Slaves of Allah, men and women, are you not afraid?. There were four people who travelled abroad seeking to commit sex (zena) and other disobediences. They went into a night club or a disco and they indulged into alcohol that night. While on that night, God the Almighty Had descended from the higher heavens saying: { Is there any one asking for anything that I will provide? Is there any one asking for forgiveness that I will forgive?}. He looks at His slaves to see where have they gone to? They had gone to a night club. What have they done? They were indulging into taking alcohol and dancing. And just as they were busy with those acts of disobediences at that night club, one of them suddenly collapsed and fainted and death was approaching him. One said to him: “say shahada; say No God but Allah”. While dying he said: “Give me another glass of alcohol”. He kept on repeating it until his soul was taken away. We ask Allah for a good ending.
Slaves of Allah, would you not be afraid that on a night that you commit a disobedience that it would be your last night? Would you not be afraid if you were riding a car committing a sim that Allah will provide you with a bad ending in a car accident? The messenger ppbu said: {One of you would do all the good deeds of the people of paradise; until he is only about an arm’s length from it, then the decree (or fate) overtakes him, and he does the deed of the people of fire, and he enters hellfire}.
Slaves of Allah be God-fearing. And remember that death will come to each one of you doing what they are doing at the time. And shall be resurrected doing what they died doing. Hurry up hurry up, hurry to repentance and the good and devout deeds. And stay fixed to that until death.
We ask Allah the Lord of the mighty throne to hold us firm on His religion, and to engage our hearts in obedience, and make the last of our deeds are the most devout. Praise be to Him, He is capable of doing that.
